Since I stayed over from the Pasco and Juneau swing, I had
the opportunity to spend Saturday and Sunday sightseeing. Luckily,
the weather was spectacular. It turned stinky on Monday and Tuesday,
but I was working - so I didn't care.
Here are some views
from the waterfront in Juneau.
The Mendenhall Glacier
Various views along
the north shore of Douglas Island. This island is across the channel
from Juneau.
A Bald Eagle - a pretty common bird along the
water in Juneau
Barrow's Goldeneye. The
second picture is an enlargement to prove these really ARE Barrow's
Goldeneye.
Uh...stumps.
If you look closely, you can see some Bald
Eagles standing along the shoreline.
Snow Buntings south of Juneau
The actual views from my hotel
window
Mendenhall Glacier
Marina at Auke Bay. It's interesting to
see piles of snow and an open marina.
These are views on
Glacier Road heading north for about 40 miles out of Juneau. Most of
the mountains you see are islands west of the mainland where Juneau is
located.
Black-billed Magpie
Northwestern Crow
Uh, moss
Harlequin Ducks
The ferry landing
What would a road trip in the midst of all this
sublime scenery be without a trip to McDonald's. Note the fine job
that the plastic owl is doing keeping the gulls and ravens off of the
roof.
The view from the Mendenhall
Wetlands at the airport
The entire city of Juneau. You're
right...not exactly a sprawling metropolis.
Surf Scoter
Marina on Douglas Island
No trip would be complete without a bait
sign. I looked long and hard for this one.
