Search Engine and Directory Submission Links
These are the links for submitting your Web site to the most popular
search engines and directories. We've also provided some additional hints
and information. Please note that these links are constantly changing and
I figure that, at any point in time, at least one will be broken. If you
discover a broken link, please let me know.
My recommendations? If you have a commercial site and you want to get
search engine traffic, go to the paid section and buy your
way into Inktomi, Yahoo and Looksmart. I'm not sure about go.com yet.
Then use the free submission features of sites that aren't powered by Inktomi.
Finally, look at bidding on terms in Goto and Google.

graphic. Follow the instructions.

Note that they give you the ability to buy a text add that appears beside the
search results.

Note that they will send a confirmation email that you'll need to respond to
before you're listed. And you can't submit more than one URL until you
respond to the email confirmation for the previous one.
FAST Search
MSN
They don't make it easy to submit anymore. They want you to pay for a
LookSmart listing. However, they do provide a "free" submission
page that "might" get into the listings. What the heck, give it
a shot. They are also powered by Inktomi.
Open Directory Project
This is more than just URL submission. This is a directory. You'll have to
identify the category you want to be in and submit additional information such
as a description of your site. Put some thought into this before you
submit.
Membership required

You need to be a "Go" guide. See above.
NBCi
Need to be a member (which is free). Powered by Inktomi. Note that,
based on published reports, this site may disappear soon. Beware of
investing too much effort in getting listed here.
Payment Required
Goto
You pay a click through fee for the search terms you wish to bid on. It's
an auction - you bid on your search terms - the higher your bid, the higher your
ranking. If you get a high enough ranking (usually in the top three), your site
will be included in results sent to their partners (like AOL and others).
Their free listings are powered by Inktomi.
Other similar paid listing sites include Sprinks,
Findwhat and Kanoodle.
Inktomi
You can submit to their engine through the URL submission page of several other
sites for free (hotbot for example). However, there may be some value in
paying Inktomi to list your site. Have a look at the details. Here
are the search engines supplied by Inktomi's engine. Here
is the page if you want to pay to submit.
Yahoo
They now charge to review a listing - there is no guarantee that your site will
be included. You can also pay for placement near the top of the directory
you're in.
LookSmart
There is a fee for listing. Submissions will also affect MSN, AltaVista
and Excite. They are also powered by Inktomi.
