Settler's Hill LandfillSettler's Hill Landfill is one of the last dumps in the western suburbs and has recently become a very good spot for gulls. In the Christmas Count week of 1999, Iceland, Thayer's, Lesser AND Greater Black-backed, and Glaucous Gulls were found.Suggestions Access to the landfill itself is restricted, unless you happen to drive a garbage truck. But excellent viewing can be had from the parking lot at the Kane County Events Center on Kirk Road in Geneva. Luckily, for the next few years, they will be tipping within easy view of this area. The most obvious feature of this parking lot, by the way, is stadium for the Kane County Cougars. Directions Take Interstate 88 to the Farnsworth/Kirk Road exit and head north. Continue for a couple of miles until you go through the intersection with Fabyan Parkway. Prepare to turn left into the Events Center. View from the southeast corner of the parking lot.
